FEBRUARY 15, 2014 Some might think it's just Presidents' weekend, but it's Susan B. Anthony's birthday!
Greetings to all of you. I am really looking forward to this upcoming tour to the Pacific Northwest. I'll be doing old tunes, new tunes, a few guitar solos, and songs in celebration of International Women's Day. I'm looking forward to hearing everyone singing along. We'll all carry on in fine Pete Seeger fashion!
And I am going to have a blast playing with Crystal Reeves and Tami Pallingston. Crystal and I have played many shows together and always love it, but this will be our first time with Tami as a trio. It will rock - she is an awesome bass player and we all know Crystal is amazing on fiddle, mandolin, and vocals.
Beth Youngblood has run into some medical obstacles (!) and won't be able to join us on this tour. We are all wishing Beth the best in her recovery. I was sure looking forward to standing in between her and Crystal singing and playing their solos and harmonies. But we all look forward to having Beth join us on the next trip.
If you visit this site on YouTube, you'll hear a song I wrote just a couple of weeks ago for a friend here in Helena. This video is from the UU service at which I first sang it for him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-SMxOT38nw
And, I've had some terrific response to the sermon I wrote for the memorial service for our Summersing camper Margaret Poore. In case you missed it in the last e-news, t's on my website under "In Judy's Words." www.judyfjell.com/sermons.htm?_p=Y
Another piece of great news. My partner Katie Knight has just been awarded a year-long sabbatical by the Helena school district and she has also just launched her new website www.katieknight.net. It is so beautiful - her photography and art is extraordinary. The show she curated, Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate continues to tour under the sponsorship of the Montana Human Rights Network. It will be in Missoula next fall and we'll be taking it to Tulsa, Oklahoma next January! www.speakingvolumes.net
I sure hope to see you on this upcoming trip. If you aren't anywhere near the Pacific Northwest, it would be great if you send a representative or two and have them say "hi" at the concert!
As you're making your plans for spring and summer, check out the camp offerings below - WoMaMu, SummerSing, and PSGW.
And a special thanks to those of you who produce and publicize events, attend concerts, camps, lessons and chorus rehearsals. It all works together well for me. I'm enjoying my students so much these days and definitely appreciate how Skype makes teaching possible over the miles! If you're interested in Skype lessons, just send me an email and we'll figure it out.
Keep singing and making music!
Love to you all, Judy
